Troy, the reason we are thankful for medical insurance

Troy is our delightful second born. As a second child myself I can relate to him a good deal. Sam & Josh are similar in their drives to know & master things (I mean come on, what other 4 year old has been reading already for 2 years?). Troy & I are content to let them figure it all out while we sit back & relax.

Troy & Josh are similar, they are father & son after all. One similarity was the hugeness of their tonsils. Josh had his tonsils removed about 2 years ago & it has made a heap of difference for him. He breathes better, sleeps better, hasn't gotten any mouth ulcers (which he was plagued with), & biggest result as far as I'm concerned he no longer snores!

Troy was on the same track. Huge tonsils & snoring. At his 3 year well visit I asked the pediatrician to check out his tonsils & told her we would like to have a referral to an ENT. The ENT took one look down Troy's throat & we scheduled the surgery. So very early one Wednesday morning in May we took Troy to have his tonsils & adenoids removed. He did great in the surgery & recovery (much better than Josh!). Our biggest challenge was getting him to take it easy for 2 weeks. He watched some movies & would snuggle on the couch but he really wanted to get up & play.

Proof that he wanted to play like usual evidenced itself on Sunday. Only four days after his surgery he was climbing on the furniture, trying to go from the couch to the recliner, when he miss judged the distance & crashed onto the floor chin first. Josh scooped him up & one look at his chin confirmed that we needed to take him to get stitches. About 2 hours & 3 stitches later we were back home. Our tough cookie acting like nothing had happened.

I had my first visit to the ER with my child only 4 short days after my first surgery with the same child. Here's hoping this is a record that stands for a long time in our house!

Crazy...and what if he weren't "taking it easy?" ;)
